L’Artisan Gourmand Grand Opening 1st and 7th of June, Al Wahda Mall.
Opening this Ramadan is l’Artisan Gourmand, heir to the rich traditions and refined techniques of generations of French cake making pâtissiers. L’Artisan Gourmand, with its grand opening set between the 1st and 7th of June, will bring to the UAE luxury éclairs made using traditional pastry techniques from authentic French recipes tested over the centuries, along with innovative tea blends from around the world. With fresh ingredients served in modern, innovative arrangements, colors, and designs, the first branch in Al Wahda Mall will serve the “high art” of French cooking with a global outlook. In-store, at home, on the go, in bulk for special occasions, or by delivery, L’Artisan Gourmandwants Abu Dhabi to kiss cupcakes goodbye and say Bonjour l’éclair!
In the late eighteenth-century the global reputation of French cooking was inaugurated with the development of grande cuisine, the “high art” of French cooking. One of the early pioneers of this foodie revolution was Marie-Antoine Carême, one of the first celebrity chefs, whose proudest invention was a long, cream-filled pastry made of elegant choux dough. As soon as it hit the shelves Parisians came to know it by the speed at which it was eaten: in a flash. Henceforth, Carême’s creation became known as theéclair, a flash of lightning.
L’Artisan Gourmand wasestablished by a French family of foodies whose cutting-edge pastries will satisfy even the most well-travelled of cake connoisseurs. In 2015 the grandmother of the family decided to share her closely guarded family recipes, passed down through generations, from the French Riviera and the sun-baked South of France, with the people of Abu Dhabi. With a chain of stores due to the follow the Al Wahda Mall branch, l’Artisan Gourmandis committed to turning the éclair into the favourite sweet treat of the UAE.
Visitors to Paris will certainly remember the elegant teashops scattered around the Marais or dotted along the Champs-Élysées. Dating from before the grande cuisine revolution, the tea trade was France’s first foray into the exploration of exotic lands. L’Artisan Gourmandwill celebrate this lasting connection between France and the Middle East, which has endured to this day, by providing thirsty visitors with a selection of popular tea bases – such as black and green tea – infused with exotic combinations of ingredients from a wide range of origins and influences.
L’Artisan Gourmand will produce their extensive and innovative range of éclairs onsite, with each batch made fresh every day. Unlike the early development of the “high art” of French cooking, l’Artisan Gourmand believes that authentic flavours from different parts of the world should not be the reserve of the elite. For too long the bland, mass-produced cupcake has dominated the dessert plates of foodies around the world. With no sense of authenticity or refinement, these synthetic snacks are nothing but junk food for a people who deserve better. That is why l’Artisan Gourmand wants to share the culinary art of the pâtissierswith everyone and deliver a five-star product to the masses.
